How Pearl Thusi became famous
In her youth, Pearl Thusi was an enthusiastic pageant princess. She entered and won a number of beauty pageants. Pearl didn’t have much success in pageants, but she quickly rose to prominence in the media. Pearl discovered a new calling after falling in love with the entertainment world and abandoning beauty pageants.
Success in pageants
Pearl began competing in beauty pageants when she was in elementary school. She competed in Miss South Africa Teen in 2003 but did not win. Pearl finished second in the pageant, which was won by Masechaba Dlengezele. Pearl competed in and won Miss KwaZulu Natal in 2005. Unfortunately, that was the end of her pageant career.
The rise of Pearl Thusi
Between 2011 and 2016, Pearl worked as a television presenter. She co-hosted the show Live AMP with Luthando Shosha (aka Lootlove) and DJ Warras in 2011. She began hosting The Real Goboza, a SABC 1 celebrity gossip show, in 2012. She quit presenting in 2016 and hasn’t been seen since.
Success in acting
Her most lucrative career route was in the acting field. She began her acting career in Zone 14 in the late 2000s. Pearl went on to star in films including Catching Feelings and Kalushi, as well as Isidingo. Queen Sono, her own Netflix series, premiered in 2018. Pearl even made it to the set of Wu Assassins, which was released this year.
In 2021 she announced that she is returning to university to complete her studies at the University of South Africa. She has tried music before, but it didn’t work out.
