Nomfundo Moh reacts to being called ugly and bodyshamed

Nomfundo Moh’s debut album, “Amagama” turns 1

Nomfundo Moh reacts to people who mock her body and call her ugly.

Speaking to ZiMoja, the singer urged people to focus on her music and not her her face nor body.

Moh says she can’t control how she looks or change her body type.

“I have overcome a lot of challenges, one of them being bullying, social media hate almost broke me,” she says. “I received a lot of hate from people calling me ugly, some criticising my size and petite body type. People criticise things that I have no control over,” she adds.

“That hits differently compared to something that I have control over. Had they been judging my make-up or hair, then I would understand because I can change a hairstyle or fix the makeup and move on but when I get criticised for something I can’t change, it hurts. That shattered me a lot. I sat down and wrote a song titled Ndabazabantu to encourage myself and to tell people that, being the way I look doesn’t not mean I am happy. I also wish to one day gain some weight and have a bit of a hip. But I can’t control it, and I am happy with the way God made me.” Nomfundo says that all she wants to do is heal people with her music.

“I am not here because of my looks or for a beauty competition but to serve a purpose and that is to heal. People must not focus on me but on the music.” She has developed a thick skin. “Before fame, Nomfundo lived a quiet and peaceful life.”
