Early life

In 1999, Lerato Nxumalo was born on February 9th. She grew up in the KwaMashu district of Durban, KwaZulu Natal Province, South Africa. Lerato has eight siblings—seven girls and one boy—from her stepmother. Even though her parents are Zulu, she only had a Sotho name because of her late grandmother, her father’s mother. Nompumelelo’s mother gave Lerato’s younger sister the name she had wanted for Nompumelelo but was unable to do so.

Lerato attended Northland Girls High in Durban. Before enrolling at Witswaterstand University in Johannesburg to pursue film and television, she studied theatrical arts from eighth grade to twelve school. Letato Nxumalo wanted to be an accountant when she grew up, but because she was copying her friend, she had no idea what an accountant did. It wasn’t until she was in eighth school that she realized she wanted to be an actress.

Acting career of Lerato Nxumalo

Lerato appeared on several television shows prior to relocating to Durban General. She had a supporting role on Isthembiso and Madume. She also had a supporting part in the film Trapped, which was featured. She also made appearances in television advertisements, playing the lead in both the 2017 Edgars Women’s Day and the 2019 Aero campaigns. screened for the 2020 season of the Durban Gen television drama. She obtained information about the Durban Gen auditions via her acting agency, Star Quality Management firm, which has offices in both Johannesburg and Durban.

She uploaded a self-tape to Durban Gen during the lockout, and shortly after, she received a call requesting her to attend an audition. She had gone through an audition process for the parts of Uzondo, Ubali, and those before being selected for Ndabezinhle Lithuli. She later left Durban Gen to play Mpumi Cele in the 1Magic drama Lingashoni. The former Durban Gen Dr. Lithuli star is currently paired with actor Patrick Mofokeng, who plays Mr. Cele, his father.
