The Ben character is the father to Bonga (Tabile Tau) and Fikile's (Refilwe Madumo) ex-husband, with who she still have a cat and mouse relationship. He lost substantial wealth in divorce proceeds, which made ex-wife Fikile an overnight millionaire.

A strict father who pushed his children to the limits leading to self-destruction in the quest to impress their father. Bonga turned to (prohibited drugs) steroids to impress his father by playing rugby at a top-level.

Ben's crumbling business empire forced him to marry the devil and participate in corrupt government tenders with the help of business associate Minister Walter Nkaba.

After a failed multi-million tender scam, Ben turned to illegal medical tests. After his ex-wife media personality Fikile tipped him of a possible police raid, he escaped jail by a whisker.

Playing Ben, father to a twenty-year-old boy, off-screen fashion sense and grey hair trademark evoked questions surrounding Khulu's age. Khulu (39) was born on 6 April 1982 in Soweto, South Africa; he was married to a Zimbabwean born actress Mona Monyane who played the role of Dr Nthabeleng on Muvhango. The couple separated in May 2020; after four years of marriage, they co-parented their two daughters.

Mona Monyane announced their separation on Twitter on 6 March 2020 and revealed that they encountered many troubles as a couple.
