Lalela Mswane has crowded the second runner up on the Miss Universe beauty pageant. When she arrived in S.A, she was greeted by South Africans young and old, male and female, black and white.

The pageant queen was emotional with the reception at the airport, especially with the young girls wearing tiaras and sashes in her honour. Lalela, whose name means ‘ listen ‘, could not contain her tears, seeing that she’s inspired so many people on her turbulent journey to winning her crown.

In 2020, the South African beauty Zozibini Tunzi won the Ms Universe title and was the world’s longest-reigning queen, and Lalela got so close.

Israel is currently at a precarious place politically, and South Africa is opposed to its alleged occupation of Palestine’s territory. The government withdrew its siport for the Miss South African organisation. Lalela was urged not to attend the pageant, but she didn’t. She followed her instincts and dreams and chased the title. Despite facing a lot of backlash for not listening to her country, she said the competition had nothing to do with politics. Following her intuition did her more good than harm as she’s currently the Miss Universe second runner up. She was reduced to tears as journalists questioned her decision to attend the pegeant in Israel, despite the host country being accused of human rights violations against Palestinians.

Lalela Mswane early life and career

Lalela Mswane grew up in a loving home in Richards Bay in the KwaZulu Natal Province under the care of her mother, who supported her from her job as a clerk. Lalela attended school until finishing matric in her home province. The Miss World second runner up moved to the Gauteng Provide to pursue her university studies.

She attained a Bachelor of Law qualification from the University of Pretoria. After getting her degree, she struggled to find employment in her field of study, which is law but didn’t give up. The queen applied for work in different legal agencies whilst working as a model part-time to sustain herself. She then attended the Miss South Africa pageant in 2021 and won. Lalela then entered the Miss Universe pageant and won the second runner up title.
