The prestigious American awards called Gotham Independent Film Awards were held on the 29th of October. The South African actress took to Instagram to announce that she bagged an award for Outstanding Performance in a new series.

Thuso said in her post that she woke up to a lot of missed calls from her manager. At first, she thought that she had missed her pick up, but it was this good news. The award was awarded for her performance in the Amazon Original The Underground Railroad, where she starred as Cora.

The actress has gained a lot of recognition in the International scenes since she got the role of Cora. Last weekend, she got the Woman of the year award at the GQ Man of the year awards. She even landed a part to act alongside the legendary International actress Viola Davis in The Woman King. She will be one of the main cast, and shooting for the movie has already started.

The Mzansi actress has been nominated for an Emmy, which is an International American award. Some of the world’s biggest stars dream of getting that nomination. For someone who went from not getting any work to being an Internationally recognised star in just a matter of a few years must be a dream come true for the beautiful actress. She has been given the nod by Forbes magazine and nominated one of the 30 under 30 creatives.
