Uzalo is losing three leading actors this year; Baby Cele who plays Gabisile, Siyabonga Shibe who plays Qhabanga and Dawn Thandeka King who plays MaNgcobo.
The show confirmed speculations last year that two of its leading actors, Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe, are leaving the show.
Cele, Shibe and King are set to leave the show at the end of its sixth season which is around the corner.King opted to not renew her contract for the upcoming season seven of the show and is moving to Johannesburg to explore greener pastures on Mzansi’s Magic’s upcoming series; Diepsloot.
Rumours about Cele and Shibe’s departure had been circulating for month last year until the producer’s confirmed their departure.
The show’s producers said:
“Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe will be leaving Uzalo by the end of season six. The story has taken this direction and will give us a riveting, high-stakes ending for both characters. The decision was made in consultation with the two actors. Both have given a tremendous amount to their roles on Uzalo and we are forever grateful for that. We will be introducing a host of new characters played by SA’s best. Please stay tuned and see as the story unfolds.”
There were rumours that Shibe had been fired from the show back in June, but he vehemently denied the reports. The actor even poured cold water on reports that he’s had fights with the producers of the SABC1 show and that he was leaving the production.
Shibe took to Instagram to set the record straight.
“I have had so many calls wanting to know whether I have been fired from Uzalo. I have been ignoring the issue for too long now. I want to put it on record that me and my producers are in a good space and there were never any fights for whatever reason. We are concentrating on delivering a good product for SABC1 since Covid-19 has affected many. Such reporting affects many – my family, my fans, fans of Uzalo.
I repeat I have never fought with anyone and I have not been booted out, as some reports claim.”
Now that Uzalo’s matriarch Dawn Thandeka King has quit the show after five years of wreaking havoc as the villainous MaNgcobo, fans are wondering who will be fired or who will quit next?
Speculations of the next actors to leave the show are around Bongani Madondo who plays Amos and Mxolisi Majozi who plays Last-Namba.
The two actors are villains and siblings on the show and they are currently acting in other shows. The writers have always cut off any villains that come after their ‘Nkunzi’, because Nkunzi always gets what he wants.
While that may change because viewers have complained about the terrible storyline on the show, tweeps suspect they won’t be on the show for long.
Madondo isn’t a fan-favourite on Uzalo because he reprised the role from everyone’s favourite; Ernest Msibi who played the first Amos on the show.
Madondo is likeable on Skeem Saam because he’s better at playing good-guy than a villain.
Madondo’s on-screen brother; Last Namba played by the talented hip-hop artist; Mxolisi Majozi is also playing the role of MacGyver on ETV’s Durban Gen.
With the three actors leaving the show, Uzalo’s future allegedly hangs in the balance!
